Scrumptious Cheddar and Beer Bread

Scrumptious Cheddar and Beer Bread

This bread is far too delicious. It’s probably massively calorific as well. I managed to binge a load of this during the recent Christmas holiday, and it was a hit with the children and guests alike.

My first attempt at this was in a traditional loaf tin. I found the centre was still a little gooey, so for my second attempt I used a shallower traybake tin. Much better result this time.

Tasty calorie bomb!

  • 375g Plain Flour
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 240g grated cheddar cheese
  • 340ml beer
  • Butter

  • Preheat oven to 180C
  • Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
  • Stir in the shredded cheese.
  • Pour in the beer and mix until everything is wet and mushy
  • Coat the bottom of the tin with butter
  • Pour the batter into the tin and spread to evenly coat it
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes. Loaf will be ready when golden brown and a skewer comes out clean
  • Take it out of the oven – let it rest on a wire rack before serving
  • Optional: melt some more butter and whisk with more garlic powder and parsley, then baste the loaf with it as it cools
