As part of the build-up to the Games, the Queen’s Baton Relay is held. Beginning at Buckingham Palace, the Queen puts a note into a baton, gives it to a runner who then relays it with others across the Commonwealth. The Queen will re-open the baton and read out her note at the Opening Ceremony.
Part of the route included the Cook Islands. You may recall that I visited the Cooks in 2012. Whilst there, I blogged about Papa Jake Numanga, who greets and sings farewell to every international flight arriving at Rarotonga.
The BBC covered the Baton Relay, and as part of the coverage ran some local interest stories along the route, including a story about Papa Jake. My Photo was picked to headline the article.
