It turns out that the police have been arresting people solely to gather their DNA and fingerprints. Once your DNA is in the database you are a suspect for all crimes, technically speaking.

The police always justify taking DNA with statistics about how criminals will reoffend. They say this when asked about people who were cleared – to the police if you are a suspect you are guilty, even if proved innocent.

Bit by bit, the police are encroaching on more and more ordinary peoples lives, having to use extreme arguements about terrorism and paedophiles to justify their daily actions against non serious criminals, and those innocent of any crime. Policing by consent breaks down the more it becomes them and us.

“nothing to hide, nothing to fear” hacks me off too. As if these self-righteous knobjockeys don’t have anything to hide from anyone. Me, I prefer government not to feel the need to have information on me just in case I do something wrong. And yes, I know, that puts me in something of a political quandary. Hmmmph.

The European Convention on Human Rights was actually written by British lawyers – but for some strange reason those on the continent don’t go on about it being Richard the bloody Lionheart all over again. And quite why supposed “Nazi Eurocrats” would have adopted it to enslave us all is beyond me.
